LB Dee Finley charged with resisting arrest

 |  September 12, 2011  |  12 Comments

UPDATE: Sept. 13, 11 a.m. ET - Florida backup weakside linebacker Dee Finley was arrested and booked into the Alachua County Jail at 4:09 p.m., charged with third-degree felony resisting arrest with violence and driving with a suspended license.

Finley, a redshirt sophomore, was being held in custody at the Alachua County Jail Monday evening. Bond had not been set.

The Associated Press reported Tuesday morning that the State Attorney’s office had reduced Finley’s charge to misdemeanor resisting arrest without violence.

According to a report in the Independent Florida Alligator, Finley drove his scooter around a barricade at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and a University Police Department officer pulled him over. Finley refused to give the officer his license and registration and attempted to pull away on his scooter.

The officer grabbed his wrist and pulled his Taser on Finley, ordering him to put his hands behind his back, the Alligator reported.

A call to a UPD spokesman to confirm details of the arrest was not immediately returned.

Alachua County court records show Finley has twice been charged with unknowingly driving with a suspended license, once on Dec. 17, 2009 and again on June 21, 2010.

Court records also show Finley currently has an open criminal traffic case for driving without a license on March 16.

Attorney Huntley Johnson is representing Finley in the open criminal traffic case from March.

Finley’s arrest marks the seventh arrest since new head coach Will Muschamp took over the program in December. He is the sixth player to be arrested.

Has Gainesville turned into a police state? This is getting ridiculous…

Really? You’re going to blame the police on this one?

Have been caught twice for the same crime?

No room for air heads in our football team. We can use that scholarship on a 4 or 5 stars recruit next year.

Some people just don’t think rules apply to them. THis was not his first rodeo with the law. Interesting to see what happens to him..I doubt he will be kicked off the team for this, but will be disciplined.

Drove his scooter around a barricade and that warrents the police officer to pull his taser.... Seriously guys these cops are going a bit overboard

cholz17, you skipped a little bit of the story in your recap.  The cops pulled him over for going around a barricade, he refused to show a license and tried to drive away, the cop grabbed his arm and pulled his taser but did not use it.  Sounds reasonable to me.

Gainesville cops are the worst, and that is speaking from an alumni/student point of view. Haven’t they ever just talked to a kid and given them a break? Do we need to hear about a kid on a scotter?

Sounds like three: Dec. 17, 2009 and again on June 21, 2010, and on March 16.

Considering the details of this latest episode, he is off the team.

There is no excuse for the multiple infractions.  Intense counseling is recommended in my opinion.

On the other side there is no excuse for such a petty matter escalating into felony charges (albeit reduced).

You wonder how many police officers would be laid off if these types of arrests were not made?
