“Hollywood” Brooks Likes the Gators
His friends call him "Hollywood" and that’s most likely because of the show he puts on the grid iron. Ron “Hollywood” Brooks (6-0, 176) is one of the most athletic players in the country. The five-star receiver prospect plays quarterback for undefeated Irving (TX) MacArthur and has already accounted for ten touchdowns in four games. The Florida Gators are hard after Brooks.
Hollywood and his teammates play North Mesquite on Friday in what should be a good match up. Hollywood has amassed 370 yards and thrown for four touchdowns while rushing for six.
His list of suitors is long but he currently favors eight. Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Tennessee have all made his last cut. The Florida Gators are really trying to make an impression on him. It seems to be working as Hollywood is trying to set up a visit with the Gators.
“Yes sir, I am trying to set up a visit to Florida to try and come down,” Brooks said. “The trip will be after the season.”
Brooks has seen the Gators play and he likes what he has sees.
“I like that they pass the ball a lot,” he said. “They have a nice balance on offense. (Receivers Coach Billy Gonzales) Coach Gonzales is recruiting me and I talked to him a couple of days ago. He told me he was going to recruit the heck out of me and he has done that. I am supposed to talk to Coach Meyer tonight. I only talked to him once when he introduced himself to me.”
He delved into why the Gator coaches are recruiting him and why he thinks he has a chance to play early in a system that he likes.
“Coach Gonzales wants me to be a big receiver. They like my ability to make plays. I like that they are play a lot of young players and they are graduating four players so that is fewer people I have to beat out.”
“I don’t try to be like anyone. I think I am quick and have excellent speed. Florida told me I would play a lot of slot and a little of the outside receiver.”
Hollywood has an idea of what he expects from the college of his choice. “I want to get along with the coaches,” he said. “I want to see how many receivers there are to compete with because I want to play my freshman year. I also want to check out the graduation rate at the school.”
The Gators have been very successful with converted position players playing wide receiver in the Urban Meyer offense. Ron Brooks has many of the tools the coaches at Florida covet in a big time play maker. Gator Country will be there following Brooks on his journey through the recruiting season.
