GC TV: It’s Titletown USA

Gator Country Staff  |  July 11, 2008

Gator County intern Michelle Nixon, a junior telecommunications-news major from Jacksonville, reports on ESPN SportsCenter visit Thursday to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to tape a segment touting Gainesville, Fla., as "TitleTown USA."

Nixon listed her reasons why Gainesville should earn the honor after ESPN finishes its tour of the 20 cities around the country that have been nominated for the honor.

Besides the men’s basketball-football-men’s basketball national championship hat trick in 365 days over the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Nixon also mentioned Florida’s other accomplishments, including the birthplace of Gatorade, the official sports drink for the National Football League and more than 75 colleges. Gatorade not only replenishes athletes during competitions but also douses coaches of championship teams.
