Gators’ key matchups vs. A&M
In the great landscape of the collegiate football world, every week provides new insights, new storylines, and new matchups for fans of every team across the country.
In Week 1, we saw the Penn State sidelines patrolled by a man not named Joe Paterno – on a full-time basis at least – for the first time since practically the Civil War. We saw Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hop into a limousine literally made out of hundred dollar bills as he left the Alabama-Michigan game, held in the billion-dollar stadium he built.
We saw power conference teams lose to schools that reside in the Football Championship Series, or FCS for those (read: everyone) who can’t keep track of all the acronyms floating around the college football
stratosphere.
We saw an Oregon Ducks squad wear the brightest green jerseys this side of that gross neon green relish they put on hot dogs at baseball games, and we watched them put up fifty points in one half. We watched a Georgia Tech squad roll out of the tunnel in honeycomb jerseys. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, however, Virginia Tech intercepted a pass near the goal line in overtime, sealing the victory and proving the Hokie’s hands were far more sticky (with honey … the best jokes are always the ones that have to be explained).
Finally, we watched a Florida Gators football team open the 2012 season against a lesser opponent, in front of a stadium that was not even close to sold out, and barely escape with a win.
