How UF will attack LSU’s defense

Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel will have had two weeks to study LSU highlights before Saturday’s battle between top-10 teams. He’ll be in the film room so much that he couldn’t even guess how many total hours he will have spent with his eyes glued to the tube before the 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

“I just know a lot of my time will be spent in that film room,” Driskel said Monday.

What Driskel sees is a 4-3 base package with a linebacker — or two — dropping back to create a dime- or nickel-type package. It will be a different coverage scheme than the Gators have faced thus far this season. Texas A&M, Tennessee and Kentucky ran some matchup-zone-type schemes with a little man-to-man sprinkled in.

LSU will be the exact opposite, with more man than zone. In fact, as far as covering receivers, the Tigers’ are likely to stay in man coverage most plays while sneaking in a few zone defenses to keep Driskel guessing. LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis — the pioneer of the ‘Mustang’ defense — will disguise coverages, though.
