By The Numbers: Texas A&M
The Florida Gators and Texas A&M Aggies 3:30 p.m. kick off on Saturday will mark the beginning of a new era. While it may be deemed an honor that the Gators get to be the first Southeastern Conference opponent of Texas A&M, it also gave the Gators a much more difficult opening three weeks than they have had in several years.
I do not believe that the stats and numbers of previous games are predictors of future games, but it is a reminder of history and helps us to think of those special moments. Just looking at the numbers for this week brings into focus the opening game of 1990, a record-setting pass in 1977 and ‘78 years of SEC football for the Gators.
This will be Florida’s 1096th game. Overall the Gators are 670-385-40, their overall score is 24,367-15,969.
The Gators have played Texas A&M two times, winning in Gainesville on Oct. 13, 1962, by a score of 42-6 and lost in El Paso (Sun Bowl) 37-14 on Jan. 2, 1977.
