Florida-Florida State: Top-5 games
To a fan of the Florida Gators or the Florida State Seminoles, Saturday’s matchup needs no sort of introduction.
The rivalry has spanned six decades and has grown into one of the nation’s most premier seasonal matchups. Despite not being college football blue-bloods, the extraordinary success of both Florida and Florida State in the 1990s and moving forward has brought heaps of attention onto the fierce, yearly showdown, as a game that once only brought the spoils of neighborly bragging rights has grown into a full-fledged war, which often allows championship dreams of one program to carry on into December while simultaneously crushing those of the loser.
After a seesaw of outcomes in the of battles of the 1990s and early 2000s, recent history has allowed for some luster to be taken off of this contest in some eyes nationally, with either one team – mainly Florida – remaining as a serious championship contender heading into the contest, or with both teams entering the game having nothing on the line except for pride.
