If the topic is great defense and college football, then it’s almost a necessity to bring up the Southeastern Conference, home to the fastest defensive teams in the country year in and year out. In a typical year, the SEC will have anywhere from 5-7 teams ranked among the nation’s 25 best in total defense. Offense may sell tickets, but in the SEC defense usually rules and wins the games. The SEC's three national champs this decade (LSU 2003 and 2007; Florida 2006) all ranked among the nation's elite teams defensively.
