NEW ORLEANS — With the coaching carousel in full swing as the bowl season was set to commence, Louisville coach Charlie Strong was viewed as an ideal candidate for a number of jobs that were open in the Southeastern Conference.
Strong’s success is well documented. In the three seasons prior to his arrival at Louisville, the Cardinals were a disappointing 15-21, including 4-8 the year before Strong arrived.
Since then, Louisville has finished with three consecutive winning seasons. Strong’s success combined with close ties to the SEC made him an ideal candidate for job openings at a number of schools.
