Brent Pease Press Conference Notebook

 |  March 21, 2013  |  0 Comments

Florida has gone through five spring practices now and on Thursday offensive coordinator Brent Pease met with the media to discuss the offense.

Pease talked about a number of things from the production of Quinton Dunbar to how well the running backs have performed this spring.

In this notebook GatorCountry.com will highlight some of the key points that Pease talked about during Thursday’s press conference.

Receivers

Pease talked about how Dunbar has had a good spring and even had a big touchdown catch on Wednesday. Pease sent Dunbar a text telling him to keep up the hard work.
Having a 1,000 yard receiver is something Pease said to temper expectations on. “If he (Dunbar) is going to do that, he’s going to have to be really productive with the ball once he catches it. Because I don’t know if we get the ball around enough to the receiver.”
Andre Debose has had a good attitude according to Pease but he has to adjust to what is thrown at him on the field and not be a robot.

Tight End

Pease “we have to get better” at tight end. Nobody has really stepped up at the position according to Pease.
The tight end position is an important position because of the mismatches it provides against teams in this offense.
Pease said there is no chance that Trey Burton will play tight end because he is too small and is more of tailback/receiver.

Running Backs
Matt Jones is practicing well and is a strong kid according to Pease.
Mack Brown is getting more comfortable in the offensive scheme this spring.
Walk on running back Mark Herndon has starting to come well and is a good player according to Pease.
Pease said that while Kelvin Taylor is still learning he’s going to be a really good player.

Improving on offense/turnovers

Brent Pease wasn’t surprised at last year’s passing game after watching film and seeing what Jeff Driskel was looking at. Pease said the receivers must get better.
Last year Florida committed 45 penalties on offense and 19 of those were false starts penalties. Pease says that Florida has to eliminate the things they can control like false start penalties and bad turnovers. Pease believes Florida should not turn the ball over more than 9 to 10 times a year.
Pease learned last year that in the red zone you must be physical to increase the efficiency inside the 20.
