The Gator Country Picks: Week 11

Our leaderboard held firm last week with Adam Pincus holding onto a sizeable lead over subscriber StuckUpNorthGator.

Those in potential striking distance of Pincus the Penguin are decreasing in numbers, which means we’ve got to put together a nice run this week if we want to stay in the running.

Below, the Gator Country staff picks each SEC and Top 25 game on the weekend slate, along with three esteemed subscribers.

Adam Pincus

Teddy Bridgewater and the Louisville Cardinals made my week with their upset of West Virginia. Who makes the upsets in week 10? That distinction belongs to the road teams.

Oregon, West Virginia and Illinois all pull off the upsets this week. I don’t know why exactly, but it must be the (Teddy) Bridgewater I am drinking. Game of the week comes out of Palo Alto with Stanford taking on the Oregon Ducks. For journalists, this game is a nightmare. Not sure if I can count all the points that will be scored in this conference shootout.

Andrew Spivey

I need to make up some ground so I’m hoping everyone else picks UGA, as I picked Auburn to upset them between the hedges. I’m also going with Florida this weekend, as I think South Carolina’s offensive struggles give Florida a good shot to win.

Justin Wells

Since I’m so terrible at this sort of thing… I’ve now resorted to asking attractive women I know to help me with making my picks, based on which uniform combinations they like the best. It can’t be any worse than what I’ve been coming up with over the past few weeks… right?

Tim Casey

I was going to pick Nebraska to beat Penn State before the events of this week. After Joe Paterno’s firing and the reaction in Happy Valley, I don’t think Penn State has a prayer against the Cornhuskers even though the players might want to win it for Joe Pa.

I took Vanderbilt to beat UF last week in the hopes that my ineptitude at picking games could raise the spirits here in Gainesville, so I’ll do it again and take South Carolina to win on Homecoming in Columbia.

Look for Southern Miss to knock off UCF this week. The University of Cheaters and Frauds has had its own off-field distractions lately.

I’ll be very disappointed if Justin Wells beats me this week. He let a female acquaintance make his picks for him based on which team she thought had better looking uniforms.

Thomas Goldkamp

I haven’t missed a Florida game yet this year, so I’ll go right ahead and say it. The Gators win in Columbia this weekend with John Brantley having a signature game-winning drive in the waning moments against a very good South Carolina defense.

In the game of the week, I like Stanford over Oregon. Andrew Luck is an idiot for shaving his beard, though. If I miss that pick, it’s his facial hair’s part.
