In Trenton Brown’s two years of playing for the Gators after transferring in, he has become one of the Florida Gators biggest offensive assets – literally.
Standing at 6’8” and weighing 361 pounds, it is no surprise that Brown had many offers to play on elite collegiate teams when he decided to transfer out of Georgia Military Academy. Brown chose to play for Florida over Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Florida State.
Prior to playing at Georgia Military, he graduated from Westover High School in 2011 where he not only excelled in football, but basketball as well. Surprisingly, basketball was his first love over football. He played well enough to receive scholarship offers from UNC Greensboro and Old Dominion right out of high school. However, Brown decided that even though basketball might have been his first love, football was his true love.
After his first season in 2011 playing for Georgia Military, Brown was named to a second-team NJCAA Football All-American in 2012. While he played on his JUCO team, they went 7-4 and averaged 188 yards rushing per game.
Brown is a strong blocker in passing and in the running game, however he is a little more advanced in the running game. His place in assisting his JUCO team to average 188 rushing yards was an eye-catcher to Florida who was looking to keep up their running game. Not only did his experience in playing JUCO football give him some experience, but it also became his motivation to work even harder to get where he wants to go.
“A lot of people from my hometown didn’t think I would make it this far,” Brown said. “I was down in a lot of people’s minds. I still got some more proving wrong to do, but it’s coming.”
Brown then decided to transfer out so that he could play at a higher level for his last two years of eligibility. He came to Florida for the 2013 season ready to make an impact to get where he wanted to go – the NFL.
Even though Brown is predominantly known for being an asset in size, he also has great footwork, hard work ethic and overall technique. The hard work that Brown put in during offseason for the Gators led to him playing in 12 games during his first season for in 2013. He began the season on the field goal unit and as a reserve at tackle, but took the starting position against Georgia when Tyler Moore got injured and went out for the rest of the 2013 season.
Before Brown’s first start against Georgia, left guard Max Garcia said, “He’s kind of been a little bit more motivated; I guess you could say, being, just the way things have been going. He’s going to have an opportunity to play this week so I’m really excited for him. You can see that he has a fire in his eye right now.” That fire in his eye kept aglow, which made Brown see his next four starts for the Gators at the end of the 2013 season.
Going in to his second season for the Gators, Brown has overcome a lot of adversity and is a prime example of how a strong work ethic can get you where you want to go. He has become an asset to Florida’s offensive line that has allowed for the strong running game in the 2014 season.
As a graduate of the school, I feel the obligation to inform you that it’s called Georgia Military College, not Academy. Haha!
Trenton was there while I was there. Easily the biggest guy on campus. But he still wasn’t the biggest I had ever seen there. When I was in high school, GMC had a guy named Clint Jordan that was 6’8″ 380 lbs. Trenton’s the second biggest I’ve heard of them having.
