Monday afternoon SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced that his office will work closely with the Florida Gators concerning Florida’s scheduled game this week against Tennessee.
“Now that the storm has passed through Gainesville, the University of Florida is working with local authorities to assess the effect of the storm on the campus and the Gainesville community, at the same time ensuring the appropriate security and local officials are available to host a game,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
The Gators canceled a game last Saturday against Northern Colorado with Irma just off the coast of Florida. At that time Gator Country learned that Scott Stricklin and Florida’s Athletic Association began doing due diligence about potential alternate locations. With Irma now gone the UAA will access the damage on campus.
The Gators will not practice on Monday, which was apart of their pre-hurricane plan. Additionally, the University of Florida has cancelled classes through Wednesday.
Florida and Tennessee are scheduled to play as the CBS Game of the Week on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
