Monday Muschamp Notebook

Florida head coach Will Muschamp met with the media today:

-Florida is through with three days of practice. First two days were just helmets, yesterday and today are in shoulder pads and shorts, and tomorrow begins full pads.

-Driskel (appendectomy) is out at practice observing, not doing anything physically. He will meet with a doctor Wednesday or Thursday.

-Matt Jones (viral infection) is moving around in the facility, they’ll know more next week and try to get him active then. Jones has lost eight-10 pounds due to the infection.

-Jon Halapio (pectoral) doing very well, will meet with a doctor Friday.

-Rod Johnson (knee) had a high school injury flare up, he is fine.

-Leon Orr (thumb) suffered a minor sprain, he’ll be in practice today.

-Former Gators Willie Rodgers and Henry McMillan were at practice the last few days.

-Cody Riggs is standing out at safety, other than that, no one else has.

-Jaylen Watkins is playing cornerback while wrinkles are being ironed out in the safety corps.

-Florida runs exclusively three man fronts for the first few days of practice to teach technique and give the offense some success before doing the same with a four man front.

-Muschamp is very comfortable playing in an odd front thanks to good outside linebackers.

-Chris Leak is still learning the offense, but his experience will help.

-Muschamp has drilled the ramifications of the targeting rule into his players. Showed them an NCAA instructional video on it Sunday, and his staff is meeting with SEC coordinator of officials Steve Shaw today.

-Muschamp expects it to be called tightly in the beginning of the season.

-Florida is improved at tight end from spring.

-Loucheiz Purifoy has no issue with getting a big head thanks to his two-way responsibility.

-The offense in year two of Brent Pease is in a good position, because coaches are doing less things, such as getting players lined up in the right spot.

Richard Johnson
Richard lives in Gainesville and prides himself in being a bonafide lifelong Alachua County Resident. He attends the University of Florida and is in his third year studying Telecommunications. He isn’t sure how he started loving football being the son of two immigrants that don’t care about the sport, but he has developed a borderline unhealthy obsession with it. In his free time, Richard watches other sports and is an avid fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Tampa Bay Rays. He doesn’t like chocolate, knows Moe’s is better than Chipotle and drinks way too many Arnold Palmers. He also took up golf in the summer of 2012. That pursuit isn’t going well.
