BRISTOL, CT — ESPN has entered a cross-promotional and content integration agreement with three of the top college-affiliated fan Web sites in the United States – University of Florida’s GatorCountry.com, University of Oklahoma’s OUInsider.com and University of Southern California’s WeAreSC.com. These sites will continue to produce daily updates featuring the latest football and basketball news related to their respective teams and will incorporate ESPN.com player ratings and other analysis within their sites.
Similar to ESPN.com’s recently announced affiliation with Ohio State fan site Bucknuts.com, users who currently subscribe to premium services on these sites will instantly become members of ESPN.com’s premium subscription service, ESPN Insider, which features in-depth analysis, statistical breakdowns, and professional-level information. These users will also receive a subscription to the award-winning ESPN The Magazine.
“College sports fans are passionate,” said David Geaslen, director, Scouts ESPN. “The agreements with these three sites will enrich our already robust college sports content at ESPN.com and allow us the opportunity to draw from writers who are experts on each of these schools and their athletic programs.”
The affiliation will mean that GatorCountry.com, OUInsider.com and WeAreSC.com will provide content for their respective team pages at ESPN.com. In return, these fan sites will be able to syndicate content and video presented on ESPN.com that relates to their schools. The staff at each site will continue to own and operate their sites independently. Links to fan site content will also be featured contextually within ESPN.com content.
(Editor’s note – we are still working on integration with ESPN Insider so our subscribers can access their content as part of their Gator Country subscription… Stay tuned…)
For eleven years running, GatorCountry.com has been widely known as the “Insider Authority on Gator Sports” due to its extensive insider connections to the Florida Gator sports community. As one of the largest collegiate sports websites in the country, Gator Country provides in-depth feature coverage, highlight videos, hyperactive message boards, and comprehensive recruiting information. Gator Country also has a monthly full-color print magazine and a weekly radio show.
WeAreSC.com began in 1998 as a website devoted to USC Trojans football as part of the original Rivals network. WeAreSC then joined with the Insiders (later Scout) in 2001 and had been with the network until the current move to affiliate with ESPN.com. With a wide variety of writers, reporters and columnists, WeAreSC offers opinion, commentary and analysis of USC football in a way that differs from the traditional media coverage focus of who, what, where and when. For the die-hard Trojan football fan, this coverage has proven to be a welcome avenue to get their fix of USC team news and the latest in Trojan recruiting information. In recent years, the site has also expanded coverage to include basketball and other USC sports.
Since its debut in 1999, OUInsider.com has grown to become one of the largest team sites in the country, and is home to more Sooner fans than all other OU web sites combined, averaging more than 150,000 fans daily. In just its second year of operation, OUInsider.com was voted the Top NFL or College football site on the Internet by “EveryFootballLink.com.” The site is generally regarded as the most reliable and accurate source for information on Sooner sports teams, with news reports and updates published throughout the day and night. A recent redesign of the site has elevated content to a greater extent and decreased advertising, giving readers more efficient access to the information they want.
