With the opening weekend of the 2011 football season in the books, Gator Country releases its Week 1 poll.
We’ve gathered a handful of our esteemed Gator Country members and asked them to pick their own Top 25, so we can put together our very own Top 25 poll!
We continue the season with 43 pollsters taking part, and today we debut our preseason Week 1 poll!
The biggest shakeup in our poll occurred right up near the top, where a 40-27 win over then-No. 3 Oregon lifted then-No. 4 LSU to the second spot in our Week 1 poll. Meanwhile, Oregon fell all the way to No. 13 in our poll, a similar drop to the one the Ducks had in both the AP and Coaches’ Polls this week.
With their win, the Tigers 16 first-place votes, finishing narrowly behind No. 1 Oklahoma with 22. Alabama received five first-place votes and finished third in our poll. Stanford and Boise State each moved up one spot to round out the Top 5.
Around the SEC, South Carolina dropped three spots in our poll, falling out of the Top 10 down to No. 12 after a lackluster win against East Carolina. Arkansas also dropped one spot to No. 14, despite a convincing win last week.
Florida moved up one spot to No. 15 with an impressive win over Florida Atlantic, giving the SEC a third of the Top 15 teams in our poll.
Mississippi State also jumped up four spots to No. 16 after a dominant win with an imposing offense against Memphis.
Three previously unranked teams entered the Gator Country poll this week after wins: West Virginia (19), Baylor (20) and USF (25).
Auburn (22), Georgia (18) and Notre Dame (19) all fell out of the Top 25 this week.
Below is the complete Gator Country Top 25 for Week 1 of the 2011 college football season.
