The Florida Gators continue to have success at the professional level, and Week 3 of the NFL season was no different, with a handful of players turning in terrific performances.
Wide receiver David Nelson continued to be a steady presence in the passing game for the Buffalo Bills, racking up six catches and a season-high 84 yards while helping the Bill jump out to a surprising 3-0 start with a huge win over division rival New England.
Florida’s all-time leading receiver, Andre Caldwell, also posted six catches in the Bengals’ loss, totaling 53 receiving yards. Jabar Gaffney added five catches for 60 yards for the Washington Redskins in a heart-breaking close loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
Former Florida quarterback Rex Grossman had led the Redskins to a 2-0 start, but fell short of a game-winning drive when he was hit from behind and fumbled as he scrambled to his left in the final minute of the game against the Cowboys. Grossman finished with 250 yards on 22-of-37 passing with one touchdown and one interception.
Percy Harvin had another well-rounded game for the struggling Minnesota Vikings, tallying three catches for 47 yards, two rushes for 41 yards and two kick returns for 47 yards.
On the offensive line, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey started at center for the Dolphins and Steelers, respectively. Cooper Carlisle earned his 105th start in the NFL on the offensive line for the Raiders.
Defensively, Cincinnati Bengals safety Reggie Nelson, a member of the 2006 national championship team at Florida, put together one of his best games of his NFL career. The rangy safety racked up 10 tackles and was all over the field in his team’s narrow 13-8 loss.
Defensive end Jarvis Moss also had arguably the best game of his career for the Oakland Raiders. Moss racked up two sacks, four tackles, one tackle for a loss, one pass defended and three QB hurries in a 34-24 win over the New York Jets.
His former teammate Derrick Harvey also recovered a fumble for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Tennessee Titans. Brandon Spikes recorded five tackles for New England, while Mike Peterson recorded five tackles for Atlanta.
Several other former Florida players contributed to their teams’ efforts over the weekend. You can find a complete listing of all their stats below.
