There will be plenty of emotions Saturday afternoon at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field when state rivals Florida State and No. 1 Florida meet for the 54th time in front of more than 90,000 and a national television audience provided by CBS. For the Seminoles, the game marks the final appearance in The Swamp for their 80-year-old head coach, Bobby Bowden, who is 17-17-1 in his previous meetings with the Gators. Bowden, whose return in 2010 has not been announced, won’t be the head coach when the teams play in Gainesville in 2011. He’d like nothing better than to see the 6-5 Seminoles break Florida’s five-game winning streak in the series, perhaps derailing Florida’s hopes for a second straight national championship but also ending the Gators’ 21-game winning streak, the longest in the nation. For the 11-0 Gators, it is the last game in The Swamp for 23 seniors (another, the late Michael Guilford also will be honored) who will be feted before the game. The biggest cheers, of course, will be reserved for quarterback Tim Tebow, middle linebacker Brandon Spikes, wide receiver Riley Cooper, weakside linebacker Ryan Stamper and wide receiver/kick returner Brandon James, but they all played big roles in a marvelous 46-6 run, the best record ever by a class in Southeastern Conference history that included two SEC championships and two BCS national championships.
