Dickey, Williams selected for HOF

Gator alums Doug Dickey and John L. Williams have been selected as the University of Florida’s inductees to the City of Jacksonville’s 2012 Florida/Georgia Hall of Fame, the City of Jacksonville Sports and Entertainment Office announced today.

Dickey, a letterwinner for the Gators from 1951-1953, had a memorable game against the Bulldogs in 1953 where he threw a 22-yard touchdown pass, scored on a QB sneak and deflected a pass in the endzone from the safety position to help UF to a 21-7 win.

Williams, a letterwinner from 1982-85, finished his career with 2,409 rushing yards, a mark that ranks seventh on the Gators’ all-time list. Williams, a two-time second team All-SEC selection was inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.

Dickey and Williams, along with UGA’s David Greene and Charles Wittemore, will be recognized at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on Oct. 26, 2012 during the festivities surrounding the long-standing football rivalry between the University of Florida and the University of Georgia.
