DeAndre Goolsby

School: Derby

Hometown: Derby, Kansas

Height: 6-4

Weight: 221

Position: Tight End

Rivals Ranking: 3-star

Recruited by: Derek Lewis

Notable: Goolsby was named to the All-State team in Kansas after leading Derby High School to a state championship as a senior. Goolsby is a versatile offensive weapon at 6-4, 221 pounds. He’s a receiver first and is a good fit for Kurt Roper’s offense.

Goolsby tallied 621 receiving yards as a senior.

He enrolled early at the University of Florida and is getting a head start on the rest of the 2014 recruiting class. In the past, Will Muschamp has been reluctant to play tight ends who have struggled with blocking but with Roper bringing a spread offense to Gainesville, there could be early playing time for Goolsby, even as he adjusts to the college game and learns to block.

Quotable: Goolsby spoke with Andrew Spivey before enrolling at Florida this past January and told Gator Country what his goals were for when he got to campus.

When I get to Florida I want to learn the playbook and gain some weight and hopefully get faster.”

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
