In the 53 years of the Eshmont Award, no other 49er has won the award more than twice or as many as four years in a row. Young was the recipient in 1996, 1998 through 2000 and 2004 through 2007.

As a college star at Notre Dame, the Chicago Heights, Ill., native was a four-year letterwinner from 1990 through 1993 who played in a bowl game every season. He was a 1993 first-team All-America selection and team captain.

The 1994 Notre Dame graduate majored in marketing.
