Around the Gator Nation for Wednesday, June 27, 2012. Today we feature articles on the Gator’s offense, another former Gator in the Olympic trial, Mike Zunino is close to a contract and more…

Every program has some sort of archetype in fans’ minds. Alabama’s is tough defense with an adequate offense. Navy’s is a triple option with overachieving, disciplined players. For most teams west of the Rockies, it’s wide open offense with no defense to back it up (USC being about the only exception). Florida Tries Again on Offense

GAINESVILLE — Florida catcher Mike Zunino continued his run on All-American honors on Monday when he was honored as a first-team All-American by Perfect Game.Former Cocoa Beach star among 3 Gators to earn postseason honors

The Seattle Mariners are close to completing a deal with first round draft pick Mike Zunino, reports Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times. The only thing holding up the deal at this point is Zunino having enough free time in his schedule to complete a physical and sign the appropriate paperwork. Mariners Close to Signing Mike Zunino

Mason Cathey, a Bishop Kenny High graduate, is one race away from earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Cathey advanced to the finals of the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Track and Field Trials on Monday in Eugene, Ore. The finals are on Friday.  Former Bishop Kenny (& Florida) runner reaches Olympic Trials finals

On Monday we published a story about Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow saying that he’s not rooting for starting quarterback Mark Sanchez to fail. Our story attributed the quotes from Tebow at an event for University of Florida boosters to GatorZone.com, the official site of Florida athletics. Florida Gators site pulls Tebow story after quotes generate attention

WILLIAMSBURG – Tim Tebow hadn’t taken his first step onto the football field Monday when word of his arrival had spread. It wasn’t long before a chorus of “Te-bow!” chants filled Zable Stadium, welcoming the New York Jets quarterback to the 19th Colonial All-Pro Football Camp. Tebow wows football camp

Can a Mark Sanchez-Tim Tebow tandem really lead the Jets to the Super Bowl? Shaquille O’Neal thinks so Shaq tweeted a photo of himself pointing at Tebow’s biceps with the following message: “jets fans this man has been working out. Look at those arms. With him and Sanchez u heard it here first Superbowl” Shaq: Sanchez, Tebow will lead Jets to S.B.

Perhaps only Tim Tebow, the man for whom everything is magnified by a billion, could be the genesis of a media fight between two backup quarterbacks. Tebow, clipboard holder for the great Mark Sanchez, and Brady Quinn, clipboard holder for the great Matt Cassel, are swinging their clipboards at one another. Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn are sniping at each other
