Wells likes the Gators offensive scheme

Receiver Rick Wells (6-0, 187, Jacksonville, FL Raines) has been committed to the Florida Gators for over two months now but it was just two weeks ago that he finally got to see his new coaches in action.

“I went up there two weeks ago to watch practice and take the tour again,” Wells said. “It was another good visit to Florida. I got to look at the new offensive and defensive schemes. I liked the way practice was because everybody got a lot of reps.”

Wells committed to Florida knowing that Jim McElwain and new receivers coach Kerry Dixon had a good plan in place for the offensive side of the ball and he liked what he saw out at practice.

“The offense is a fast pace, up-tempo style of offense,” Wells said. “It’s an exciting offense and I watched the receivers. I felt like that I could come in play early there. Coach Dixon has been telling me that I just have to come in and work hard.”

Ever since Wells committed to Florida he has continued to build a strong relationship with Dixon. The receiver coach has kept his message consistent to Wells.

“Coach Dixon has been telling me that he wants me as an edge receiver so I watched those guys in practice,” said Wells. “He said that he sees me moving around a lot and playing some in the slot too. He tells me that he wants me to stretch the field for them.”

Wells, who had a solid junior year, never received an offer from Will Muschamp but when he got that offer from McElwain he says it was a no brainer.

“Florida has always been my favorite school and the chance to play early was too good to pass up on,” Wells said. “Everyone in my family is a Florida fan so I knew when I got the offer that I wanted to commit.”

Despite his strong commitment to Florida, Wells says he plans to visit some other schools with some of his friends.

“I plan to go to Florida’s spring game,” Wells said. “I’m also planning on going with my teammates to South Carolina in April and to UCF sometime this spring too.

INSIDERS TAKE: Wells has continued to impress at every camp and tournament that he attends and shows why Florida took him early on. Wells may not be the home run type receiver but he’s a guy that will do all of the little things right and be a consistent playmaker.
