UF Recruiting: Prep Preview Week 3

Every Thursday, Gator Country will run a high school preview featuring all of the Gators’ current commits as well as a few of Florida’s biggest targets. This preview will be followed up by a recap on Mondays.

All games are on Friday unless otherwise noted.

St. Petersburg Catholic (Fla.) vs. Crescent City (Fla.) – Florida defensive lineman commitment Caleb Brantley and his Crescent City teammates will look to rebound from a tough opening game loss. However, they will have their hands full against Florida State running back commitment Ryan Green and 2014 offensive line target Reilly Gibbons and the rest of the St. Petersburg Catholic team.

American Heritage (Fla.) vs. Armwood (Fla.) – Armwood enjoyed a blowout win last week, and Florida receiver commitment Alvin Bailey carried the lion’s share of the weight in scoring three touchdowns. This game will be no cake, however, as Armwood will have to find a way to stop American Heritage running back Greg Bryant.

Wayne Memorial (Mich.) vs. Canton (Mich.) – Canton enters the game 1-1 on the year and, in last week’s win, Florida offensive lineman commitment Cameron Dillard had a monster game blocking.

Bishop Kenny (Fla.) vs. Fletcher (Fla.) – Florida receiver commitment Ahmad Fulwood will look to build on a strong opening game performance as he and his teammates travel to Fletcher High, looking to improve their record to 2-0 on the year.

Sickles (Fla.) vs. Wharton (Fla.) – Wharton scored a big opening game victory behind a touchdown from Florida cornerback commitment Vernon Hargreaves. Hargreaves has been rated the No. 7-overall prospect in the nation, and Wharton will need him if they want to go 2-0 on the year.

Shaw (Ga.) vs. Carver (Ga.) – Florida receiver commitment Marqui Hawkins returned last week from injury and had a big game in the win for Carver. Carver starts their home season this week and will look to go to 2-0 on the year.

Lincoln (Fla.) vs. St. Paul (La.) – Lincoln has missed their first two games due to postponements. Unfortunately, Florida linebacker commitment James Hearns and his Lincoln teammates will not have much time to shake the rust off with a talented St. Paul’s team coming to town.

Land O’ Lakes (Fla.) vs. Pasco (Fla.) – Florida defensive lineman commitment Joey Ivie and his Pasco team open their season this week at home against Land O’Lakes.

Winter Haven (Fla.) vs. Haines City (Fla.) – Winter Haven opened the season with a blowout win, pulling away from their opponent thanks to a big second half performance. Credit Florida running back commitment Adam Lane’ s superstar performance.

Bayside (Fla.) vs. First Coast (Fla.) – This game matches two Florida commitments against each other as Bayside boasts the services of 2014 defensive lineman commitment Travonte Valentine and First Coast has 2013 linebacker commitment Daniel Mcmillian.

East Ridge(Fla.) vs. South Sumter (Fla.) – Florida safety commitment Keanu Neal has had two straight big games as he had a 60 yard reception in last week’s blow out win for South Sumter. South Sumter will look to move to 2-0 on the year.

Mainland (Fla.) vs. Jones (Fla.) – Led by Florida commitment Quinton Powell, Mainland had a big 19-3 win in opening week action to begin the year 1-0. Powell and his defense will have to deal with Florida State receiver commitment Levonte Whitfield if they want to win.

Archer (Ga.) vs. East Coweta (Ga. ) – Florida defensive lineman commitment Antonio Riles had two sacks in last week’s win and will look to lead Archer to a 2-0 record this week.

Hillsborough (Fla.) vs. Cocoa (Fla.) – Florida defensive lineman commitment Jordan Sherit will look to lead the Hillsborough defense again this week as last week they completely shut down their opponent in an opening

weekend victory.

Brentwood Academy (Tn.) vs. Stratford (Tn. ) – Florida quarterback commitment Max Staver will not play this week for Brentwood due to the shoulder injury he suffered in his most recent game but he should be back next week.

Highlands Christian (Fla.) vs. Glades Day (Fla.) – Florida running back commitment Kelvin Taylor had 313 yards last week and against a below average Highlands Christian he should have another good performance for Glades Day.

Columbia (Fla.) vs. Gainesville (Fla.) *Thursday – Gainesville has had two straight big wins and this week they will go up against a good Columbia team lead by top offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil. Florida receiver commitment Chris Thompson will look to build on last week’s monster, four touchdown, performance.

Trinity Christian (Fla.) vs. Sandalwood (Fla. ) – Florida safety commitment Nick Washington and his Trinity Christian team will go head-to-head with Alabama defensive lineman commitment Demarcus Walker in a tough game for both schools.
