Thompson has the Florida Gators in the No. 2 spot

The Florida Gators had a lot of prospects on campus for Friday’s spring scrimmage and that included some underclassmen as well.

One of those underclassmen on campus was 2018 receiver Warren Thompson (6-4, 185, Seffner, FL Armwood), who visited with his mother.

“It was my first time up there and it was a great visit,” Thompson said. “I had a good time and I got to meet all of the coaches and watch the scrimmage. I was with my mom and one of my teammates. My mom loved it; she’s a Gators fan. She was in kind of like a surreal type of moment, she loved the campus.”

Thompson received good news from the Florida Gators last week when they offered him a scholarship over the phone.

“The wide receivers coach, Coach [Kerry] Dixon offered me a scholarship last week,” he said. “Coach Dixon was just saying that I have an offer from the Gators and that I would have to come up there more. That was last week so that’s why I came up there on Friday. He wants me to come up there as often as possible. I really like coach, he was cool and we met on Friday. I want to get to know him a lot more so I’ll definitely be coming up a lot more.”

While in Gainesville Thompson and his mom got to watch the Gators scrimmage, and the receiver watched his position closely.

“The scrimmage was hard hitting from the defense,” Thompson said. “They were telling me about the JUCO running back and I’m quite familiar with Alvin Bailey and the Armwood guys. I watched Coach Dixon and he does a real good job coaching the position. I always look at the one-on-one drills on YouTube to see what they’re doing.”

The Armwood product was also able to watch the Gators offense closely and Thompson liked what he saw from them and the quarterback position.

“The offense is a good mix of run and pass and that’s what I’m looking at,” he said. “They can air the ball out, they’ve got quite a bit of quarterbacks that can pass the ball now. They were telling me that #14 [Luke Del Rio] is going to be the starting quarterback right now.”

Florida impressed the 2018 receiver enough to get in the mix with another instate school as Thompson plans to be back in Gainesville a lot.

“Florida is my number two school behind Miami right now,” Thompson said. “I’m not going out of state, so I’m staying in Florida. I’m going to keep coming up to Florida so it’s going to be a battle between them two schools. I love Florida and I love the campus as well.”

Thompson, who said he wants to spend more time in Gainesville, could be back as early as this week.

“I’m going to talk to my mom and see if I catch the spring game,” he said. “Most likely I will be there this Friday.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Thompson is one of the top guys in the class of 2018 in the state of Florida and the Gators are right in the mix. Thompson’s mom is a big Gators fan and the more he visits Gainesville the better Florida’s chances become.
