Taylor unwraps commitment to UF

ESPNU 150 outside linebacker Michael Taylor (Atlanta/Westlake) has committed to Florida, ESPN’s Billy Tucker reports.

Reports first hit Gator Country last week that Under Armour All-American Michael Taylor had made a public commitment to the Gators on a school news program at Westlake High School in Atlanta, GA on Friday morning. Just two days later, Taylor finally confirmed the news that he has in fact thrown his hat in the ring for the Gators.

“When I got the offer last week my mom cried and I knew it was the school for me, “ Taylor told Billy Tucker of Scouts Inc. on Sunday evening. “I fell in love with Florida the university on my visit, not just the coaches. I feel Florida will take me where I want to go with my life.”

Taylor is slotted as the #12-ranked outside linebacker in the country according to Scouts Inc., and is listed at #123 on the final edition of the ESPNU 150 rankings. Look for more on the commitment of Michael Taylor to Florida over the coming days.

BILLY TUCKER’S TAKE: While we thought Tennessee was a great fit for this explosive linebacker, Taylor may project even better as a future Gator. UF will remain a fast attacking, high-temp defense even with out coach Charlie Strong signaling in the defense and Taylor is one of the faster pursuers in this 2010 class. He may not be the biggest but he gets over the trash quickly and has striking burst closing in space. Taylor is a bit of an overachiever but don’t underestimate this Under Armour All-American game MVP—he’s a gamer and a guy who will set the tempo of the defense with his play in the Swamp.
