SunshinePreps Showcase Camps

The first ever SunshinePrep’s Showcase kicked off this past July and was a huge hit. Top talents from across the state came together on the campus of saint Leo University for a 3 day camp to test their talents against each other in a 7 on 7 format. “Kids went at it from the time they arrived to the time they left.”

“We had one on one action with WR going head to head against DBs, we had RBs going against LBs, and we had some big time QB talent tossing the ball around,” said Sunshine Prep’s Derek Williams.  The camp’s main objective was to provide kids a non-combine type of setting to showcase their abilities.  “There are plenty of combines scattered across the state, quite honestly, I have never been a big fan of them.  I don’t feel there are enough camp settings that can bring kids in and just let them get after it.”

Well, there could be some great news for kids across the state next year as the SunshinePrep’s Showcase is preparing for a 4 city tour that will include the additions of Tallahassee, Jacksonville, and Miami to the Tampa camp.  “The camps will take place in June of 2008 and will showcase up to 200 skill players from each of the regions.  All together it will be our goal to showcase a total of 800 kids from all parts of the state.  The camp cost this year was only $99 which include housing, meals, and the kids got to keep their camp jerseys.  The camp was designed to break even and it did just that.

Next year, with the help of sponsors who have begun to take note, this camp will not only offer kids this low priced opportunity but of equal importance, this camp will employ 17 coaches in each region with pay being two and three times as much as other camps pay.  These camps will be for the kids and high school coaches.  The coaches provide such an impact on these kids lives and more often than not, their efforts are not compensated.  I hope these camps can change that, we will see.  I have some great coaches already involved and as camp dates and times are set, I will provide further details”.

These camps will not be exclusive to the state of Florida as a two year plan will include expansion into Texas and Georgia as well.  Stay tuned for information on the Second Annual SunshinePrep’s Showcase.  High School coaches interested in information can contact Derek williams at
