Sandidge has “really high” interest in the Florida Gators

On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted a rare visitor these days as most prospects are done with visits until after the spring is over with but it was a big visit for Florida.

Defensive tackle Rick Sandidge (6-5, 273, Concord, NC. High) was on campus this weekend with his family and it was a good time for his family.

“The visit was pretty good, I liked it a lot,” Sandidge said of Saturday’s visit. “Well not good, it was actually great. I had a great time seeing the campus. They were talking to me about the weight room and how they were getting that built up just for the football team soon.”

Most of the coaches were off of campus on Saturday but defensive line coach Chris Rumph was there to show Sandidge around campus and meet with him.

“I just got to talk to Coach Rumph, the defensive line coach,” he said. “He was just saying that he was going to be real with me and he was talking about the positive and the negatives when we were watching my film. He was pointing out some things that I could do better.”

While meeting with Sandidge, Rumph explained to the defensive tackle that the Gators have a big need at his position.

“He was telling me that they needed defensive tackles,” Sandidge said of Rumph’s message. “He said that they need me to come here and to be a Florida Gator.”

Sandidge has been mute about naming any leaders right now but he does admit that his interest in Florida is legit.

“It’s going to be really high with them,” he said of his interest in Florida. “Coach Rumph is the main reason why his personality is real funny and serious at the same time.”

After visiting Florida State on Monday, Sandidge plans to take a little break before taking more visits this spring.

“I’m supposed to be going to LSU, Ohio State, and Georgia later on,” Sandidge said of what is next. “I’m also planning on coming back down to Florida.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Sandidge says he wants to wait awhile to make a decision and he has a lot of schools high on his list. Florida is one of them but so is South Carolina who has long been labeled the favorite to land the defensive tackle.
