Aaron Robinson sees early playing time: Florida Gators

The Florida Gators have become DBU, but in order for the Gators to continue that trend, they must restock their defensive back position.

One of the Florida Gators cornerback commits Aaron Robinson (6-1, 173, Deerfield Beach, FL High) made his first visit to Gainesville two weeks ago when Florida took on Florida State and he loved his visit.

“Everything was good, that was my first Gators game so it was good,” Robinson said. “The atmosphere was good and being able to get up there was great. Everything lived up to my expectations and I could imagine myself playing in the Swamp.”

Robinson only made one trip to Gainesville this year, but he watched the Florida Gators’ defense every week and liked what he saw from them.

“I thought that the defense was good, they were very aggressive and attacking this year,” he said. “I liked how they showed up every game and played hard. I loved that the defensive backs played some man and zone too.”

Despite only the one visit, the Florida Gators have had cornerbacks coach Kirk Callahan and receivers coach Kerry Dixon keeping in contact with the defensive back.

“I usually talk to Coach Cal and to Coach Dixon a lot,” Robinson said. “Coach Cal is just telling me to stay on top of my grades and he’s always telling me that he appreciates me being a part of the family.”

Callahan has made sure to let Robinson know that they need defensive backs in this class in a bad way.

“Coach Cal said that he’s ready for me to come in and make an impact,” he said. “They tell me that they need me to be ready as soon as possible because they need guys there. I feel like I can come in and compete and earn some playing time as a freshman.”

On Tuesday, Dixon visited Robinson at his high school as Dixon is on the road recruiting this week.

“Coach Dixon came by to see me today [Tuesday],” Robinson said. “Everything was good, we just talked with each other and caught up on everything from this season. We have a great relationship with each other.”

Despite Robinson saying he’s a solid commit to Florida, the cornerback says he still plans to take his official visits.

“I’m going to take my official to Florida in January,” he said. “I’m going to take an official to Tennessee and to Wisconsin as of right now. North Carolina is also trying to get me take an official to them.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Robinson says that he remains solid in his commitment to Florida and that’s a good thing for the Florida Gators as he may be the Gators best cover corner in the class. Robinson is a very underrated prospect that could find his way onto the field next year.
