One of the new roles in the expanded coverage of recruiting for Gator Country will be field scouts who report and write about players first-hand, then analyze their skills.

That role will be partially filed by former college football player and freelance sports writer Richard Burton, who will focus mostly on the talent around Central and North Central Florida, it was announced today by Gator Country.

Burton will be one of 10 people who make up “The Recruitniks” squad to be deployed around the state by Gator Country. He has been a freelance writer for 15 years with papers across the state.

Burton appears weekly on “The GatorCountry Radio Show” talking about prep sports throughout Central Florida.

“I am very proud to join the GatorCountry.com staff,” Burton said. “Football and recruiting are both passions of mine and I am excited to have the opportunity to offer insight on some of the best players in the nation. I am excited about the opportunity given to me by Buddy Martin, Mark McLeod, and Franz Beard.”

Burton has also been working with the Marion County School Board for the last 12 years and is currently teaching 8th Grade American History to Inclusion Students at Lake Weir Middle School in Summerfield, Florida.

A graduate of Lake Weir High School and UCF, Burton has put together the all-time records list for Marion County football, as well as the Kingdom of the Sun basketball tournament.

Earlier this week, Jason Pughe was announced as the Video Coordinator of “The Recruitniks.”
