RECRUITING: Hicks loves Gator Coaching Staff

One of the top linebackers in the state of Florida, Brandon Hicks continues to list Miami and Florida high and continues to list other schools. At 6-2 and 205 pounds, Hicks is a game changer on defense that many schools are really itching to get on their roster. Gator Country caught up with the four-star linebacker this weekend to see how his season and the recruiting process is going.

After losing in back to back close games, four star linebacker Brandon Hicks and the Jacksonville Forrest football team got back on the right track this Friday night. “We beat Lee High School 36-0 on Friday. I had a big game, too. I forced a fumble, fumble recovery that I returned for a touchdown, a sack, and about 6 tackles. I didn’t play any wide receiver this week though. This was my first week not playing there.”

Though his focus is constantly on improving his Forrest team, he is still being recruited heavily by many national programs. “Right now, I’m considering Florida, Miami, Michigan, Clemson, LSU, and Auburn. I’m hearing from all these teams a lot.”

Hicks loves the coaching staff at the University of Florida and boasts. “The coaches are great. I love talking to Coach Meyer and Coach Mattison. I talk to Coach Meyer every once in a while, but Coach Mattison and I talk about once or twice a week.”

The linebacker was supposed to be in Gainesville on an unofficial visit this weekend for the game against Alabama, however it didn’t work out. “I wasn’t able to make it to Gainesville or even watch much of the game because I had to work. But from what I saw they looked good.”

He has not taken an official visit yet, however he plans to after his football season is over. “I’d rather wait until my high school season is over before I start taking my officials. I want to take an official to see Clemson, LSU, and Michigan to see the schools for myself. I don’t think I will use an official on an instate school unless I have some left.”

“I’ve already seen Miami and Florida this summer, and I went to the Miami/Florida State game too.”

Hicks doesn’t have a timetable for his decision, and still has some work to do before a decision can be made. “I’m going to make my decision after I see all the schools I’m looking at. As of now the only schools I have seen are the three Florida schools.”

After seeing the three Florida schools, only one is missing from his list of interest. “Florida State was always my favorite team growing up, but I don’t think that anymore. I’m kind of still looking at them, but not really anymore. I don’t like their depth chart.”

Some schools are even looking at Hicks being athletic enough to be a two way player. “West Virginia is talking to me about coming in to play wide receiver and linebacker, but I’m not interested in doing that.”

The Gators have him pegged at the top of the board at linebacker and want him specifically at the strong side position. Hicks would go a long way in solidifying what is already a great recruiting class if he were to announce for the orange and blue.
