One of the best athletes in the entire country is Durham (NC) Hillside wide receiver Greg Little. Little could play any number of positions on either side of the ball but will be a receiver at the collegiate level. At 6-3, and 205 pounds, Little is a huge target for quarterbacks.
He was in Gainesville last month showing off what he could do for the Florida Gator coaches at the second annual Friday night Lights. According to Little and the Florida coaches they both impressed with each other.
There were several elite receivers in attendance on July 21st and Little was able to prove his worth. Displaying great hands and the size to go over the middle against anyone, he certainly was a standout on the night.
“It was really a nice place and I think I did real well,” Little told Gator Country last week. “I think I only missed like one ball in the receiver drills. I think some of the timing was off with the quarterbacks but other than that I think I did real well.”
The Gators also hosted their fourth Junior Day of the recruiting season the following day. A lot of the big time prospects that were at the Friday night camp were also in attendance on Sunday checking out the University and the city of Gainesville. Little found out a little more about Florida.
“It’s really a friendly environment,” he said. “I really bonded with some of the guys. In just the two days I was there, I really enjoyed myself. Carl Johnson, Brandon Spikes, and Wondy Pierre-Louis, I got together with some really cool guys. Carl Johnson, he’s a real close friend of mine ever since 7th grade.”
Little appreciates the relationship the coaches have with the Gator players and the candor they displayed on his trip.
“I would say that the coaches are really down to earth,” Little said. “With me possibly graduating early and really putting in some hard work and time they thought that I could get some playing time early. And they have one of the top graduation rates in the country.”
The Gator staff certainly took notice of Little competing against some of the country’s finest defensive players and next to a great contingent of receivers.
“They thought I was a well rounded receiver,” he said. “And with a little tweaking and a few things like that I can be one of the top receivers in the nation.”
Little has plans for three official visits to Notre Dame, USC, and Georgia Tech. Other than that, he is pretty much open in the rest of his recruitment. He wants to make his decision by late October.
“I’m looking at everyone right now,” he said. “I haven’t thinned down my list yet but probably by the end of this month I should have that down.”
In the end there are some variables that will be the most important in choosing the college of his choice.
“Like I said, coaches, down to earth coaches I can bond with,” he said. “Second would be playing time and third would be academics.”
With academics a key cog in his school of choice, Little already knows what he wants to pursue in college. A computer Science degree is something that will probably come natural to him.
“My dad is a computer engineer so I’m basically around computers 90% of the day,” he said.
Little played mostly running back last year for Hillside, but will be a receiver for most of this season. He does whatever his team needs and knows there are still some things he wants to improve on.
“As a high school player, I do whatever my team needs me to do to win the ballgame,” he said. “But I plan on playing receiver at the next level.”
“I would say I need to improve the most in running routes, you can’t perfect that enough. I’m kind of a slot receiver last year and running back but this year I’ll be strictly playing mostly wide out.”
Greg Little has most of the big time programs in the country knocking on his door. He has a bright future ahead and one of those programs is going to be very excited at the prospect of a special athlete in Little that comes their way.
