RECRUITING: Carlos Dunlap Commits To UF

The Florida Gators runaway recruiting freight train came up big once again Monday afternoon with the commitment of five-star defensive end Carlos Dunlap, rated one of the best pass rushing specialists in the entire country. Dunlap made the announcement at his school Monday, just one day after returning from an official visit to Gainesville.

The 6-7, 240-pounder has so much speed that he runs back kickoffs at North Charleston (SC) Ft. Dorchester. At Florida he won’t be running back kicks, but instead will be using that speed and size to be a terror to opposing quarterbacks. During the past season at Ft. Dorchester he had a phenomenal year, notching 24 quarterback sacks and 105 tackles for loss.

Dunlap made his final choice between the Gators and his home state South Carolina Gamecocks.

With the departure of four senior defensive linemen and one junior early entry to the NFL draft, Dunlap has an excellent chance to score early playing time at Florida. With the addition of Dunlap, the Gators have five defensive linemen committed to the recruiting class of 2007. Considering the Gators whiffed on defensive linemen two seasons ago, scoring big on the defensive line is an absolute must this season.

Dunlap in the fold means the Gators have six five-star commitments and 14 four-star commitments in their recruiting class, currently ranked number one in the nation by Scout.com.
