Recruiting Mailbag

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers. Here are this week’s recruiting questions and our most accurate answers based on the information we’ve got available at the moment.

Soflgator: You indicated in your last edition of Spivey Senses that a coach on Jordan Sims H.S. staff has a connection to the Gator coaching staff. Are you permitted to elaborate? If so, please do.

AS: Yes one of his assistants is friends with one of Florida’s recruiting staff.

Soflgator: What is the status of Thomas Holley and Lorenzo Carter.

AS: Things are still going great with Lorenzo Carter (6-5, 235, Norcross, GA) because of his relationship with the coaches. With Thomas Holley (6-4, 299, Brooklyn, NY Abraham Lincoln) the Gators are in decent shape but trail Ohio State and Penn State.

JerseyGator3669: How many transfers do you expect after the season?

AS: Honestly this unpredictable at this point. Once the season ends and the coaches meet with the players that’s when you will get a better feel for this but like every year you will have some transfers.

JerseyGator3669: Do we have a good chance of getting Damian Prince because if his friendship with Grier?

AS:I still feel like Maryland is the team to beat for Prince (6-5, 292, Forestville, MD Bishop McNamara) simply because of the distance but if Florida gets him down on an official and maybe an unofficial then things could get interesting. It never hurts to have your quarterback talking with top prospects though.

JerseyGator3669: Do are chances of flipping Tre Williams increase if Auburn doesn’t take Casher?

AS: Tre Williams (6-2, 220, Mobile, AL St. Paul’s) and Josh Casher (6-1, 300, Mobile, AL St. Paul’s) have very little to do with each other honestly. Florida has done a great job on Williams but with him being from Alabama it will be tough to pull him away from the state.

JerseyGator3669: Anything new regarding Goolsby?

AS: With DeAndre Goolsby (6-4, 225, Derby, KS) everyone is in wait mode as they wait for him to visit Kansas State before making a decision. Right now it’s between Arkansas and Florida.

MrB-Gator: How many Juco’s do we take and at what positions?

AS: I can’t see Florida taking more than two JUCO’s honestly. I think you could see Florida take one on the offensive line and one on the defensive line.

G8rmwr: I know we’re in it for Eric Lauderdale, but I was curious what other WR’s are on the board that are still looking at us heavily. Seems like Malone is out of it, but what about Rudolph, Dixon, etc? Are there any that we haven’t heard of that the staff has turned up the heat on? Or are we maybe looking at working out one of JC or Adoree Jackson on offense?

AS: Right now the receivers to focus on are Eric Lauderdale (6-1, 195, Mission Viejo, CA Saddleback CC), Travis Rudolph (6-0, 189, West Palm Beach, FL Cardinal Newman), Adoree’ Jackson and possibly Javon Harrison (6-2, 190, Lakeland, FL Kathleen). Florida has told JC Jackson he will play cornerback but that will be better determined once he arrives on campus.

Fdelat1: We are currently listed as #15 on Rivals.com. When it’s all said and done do you see us having a top ten recruiting class this year? If so what additions are going to get us there?

AS: I think you will see Florida anywhere from 5-8 in the recruiting rankings at the end of the year. If Florida was to land David Sharpe (6-8, 275, Jacksonville, FL Providence School), Adoree’ Jackson (5-10, 172, Gardena, CA Junipero Serra) and Lorenzo Carter (6-5, 235, Norcross, GA) those three alone will help Florida jump a lot of other teams.

  1. Mr. Spivey: I am not as avid a recruitnick as most. I do like to read about the recruits though. I have trouble remembering the position each recruit plays. Could you possibly put their position (WR, TE, DT, ect.) after the names of the recruits?
