Q&A with Byron Cowart’s head coach

The Florida Gators’ top target is very likely defensive end Byron Cowart (6-3, 252, Seffner, FL Armwood) and Cowart has been the best player after two practices at the Under Armour All-American game.

Cowart has shown why he’s one of the top prospects in the country by dominating nearly every rep in 1-on-1 drills and on Tuesday Gator Country.com had the opportunity to speak with Cowart’s high school football coach.

Cowart’s coach, Sean Callahan, is one of the coaches at the Under Armour game this week and here’s Q&A with Callahan on Cowart.

Q.) Byron has had a good two practices can you talk about his week so far?

A.) “Our last game was two weeks ago so he’s really not out of shape,” Callahan said. “He’s excited to be around this level of talent and he’s really ready to head to college. He’s been through The Opening and camps so he’s use to these kind of competition and how much nicer can it be then to be in Disney playing against the best players in the country.”

Q.) On the field what’s Cowart best attribute to the team?

A.) “Byron has all of the tools of a good defensive lineman but rushing the passer is I guess his best attribute,” Callahan said. “Byron really can rush the passer well and he has very good hands for a linemen.”

Q.) How ready is Cowart for the next level?

A.) “I think Byron is going to be humble at whichever college he goes to,” Callahan said. “Going from high school to college is a big difference but like all of our kids that go off to the next level, they feel like they’re ready. That’s the way you should be but it’s a big step. I don’t how big of impact he will have from day one because of the jump.”

Q.) What type of person is Cowart off the field?

A.) “Byron does a good job of staying humble if he’s around the right guys,” Callahan said. “ He’s definitely a guy you have to stay on and he’s blessed with some God given tools but he’s a guy you have to stay on top of. He works hard.”

Q.) Is Cowart a vocal leader on the field?

A.) “Not really but he’s a solider on the field,” Callahan said. “He follows good people but he’s a quiet person.”

Q.) How much potential does Cowart have?

A.) “He has all of the tools that colleges want in a defensive end,” Callahan said. “With the right coaches and the right scheme he will be really good.”
