Week one Preview: Florida Gators commits in action

It’s that time of the year again where the Friday Night Lights are bright and prospects all across the country are starting their high school football season either this week or next weekend.

Like the past years Gator Country is going to do a preview every Thursday for all of the Florida Gators commits and on Monday we will do a full recap including stats and notes from the past weeks games.

This year we are going to also highlight the key players to watch in the game that aren’t Florida Gators commits but rather targets or just big names in the game.

Also we will give you a few games that involve Florida Gators targets from the Class of 2016 and 2017 to watch as well.

 

Florida Gators 2016 commits

 

Offensive lineman Branton Autry (6-4, 320, Coffeyville, KS JUCO

Matchup: Coffeyville doesn’t start its season until next  Saturday when they will host Iowa Western in the Cox Kickoff Classic.

Defensive end JaQuan Bailey (6-3, 235, Jacksonville, FL Raines)

Matchup: Raines doesn’t start until next Friday night when they travel to Lee High School.

Yearly Stats: Last season Bailey had 60 tackles, four tackles for a loss and five sacks as a junior.

Offensive lineman Stone Forsythe (6-7, 331, Winter Garden, FL West Orange

Matchup: West Orange will travel to Kissimmee to take Osceola in the opening game of the season.

Yearly Stats: N/A

Key Players: West Orange: WR Eddie McDoom and QB Woody Barrett. Osceola: CB Carlos Becker and safety Devon Clarke.

 

Cornerback Chauncy Gardner (5-11, 190, Cocoa, FL High)

Matchup: Cocoa doesn’t start its season until next Friday night when they travel to take on Palm Bay.

Yearly Stats: Last season Gardner had 31 rush attempts for 303 yards and five touchdowns. Gardner also had 10 catches for 196 yards and another two touchdowns. On defense Gardner had 49 tackles, three sacks and three interceptions.

Receiver Josh Hammond (6-0, 180, Hallandale, FL High)

Matchup: Hallandale doesn’t open its season until next Saturday when they travel to Ellenwood, GA to take on Cedar Grove.

Yearly Stats: Last season Hammond had 25 catches for 413 yards and six touchdowns as a junior.

Center Brett Heggie (6-4, 290, Mount Dora, FL High)

Matchup: Mount Dora doesn’t open its season until next Friday when they host South Lake at home.

Receiver Isaiah Johnson (6-3, 212, West Palm Beach, FL Dwyer)

Matchup:  Dwyer takes on Northwestern in week one of the 2015 season on Friday night.

Yearly Stats: As a junior, Johnson had 36 catches for 641 yards and five touchdowns.

Linebacker Vosean Joseph (6-2, 210, Miami, FL Norland)

Matchup: Norland will travel to take on North on Thursday night to open its season.

Yearly Stats: Joseph had 59 tackles and one sack as a junior at Norland.

Defensive back Quincy Lenton (6-0, 195, Meridian, MS High)

Matchup: Meridian will take on Madison Central in a home game on Friday night.

Yearly Stats: As a junior Lenton had six catches for 96 yards and three touchdowns on offense. On defense Lenton had 44 tackles and two interceptions.

Matchup: Southwest doesn’t start its season until next Friday when they travel to take on Miami Coral Park.

Matchup: Hoover will take on Oakland (Murfreesboro, TN) on Saturday at Hoover High School.

Yearly Stats: Moon recorded just 21 tackles during his junior year at Hoover.

Cornerback Jayvaughn Myers (6-1, 175, Dade City, FL Pasco)

Matchup: Dade City doesn’t start its season until next Friday when they take on Victory Christian Academy.

Yearly Stats: As a junior Myers had 31 tackles, one sack and five pass breakups.

Matchup: Theodore will host Citronelle on Friday night to open its season.

Yearly Stats: As a junior Perine had 216 carries for 1,416 yards and 16 touchdowns while also catching 13 passes for another 255 yards and two more touchdowns.

Matchup: Deerfield will take on Coconut Creek on Friday night to open the season.

Matchup: Park Crossing will take on St. James on Friday night in a home game to open its season.

Yearly Stats: As a junior Taylor had 91 tackles and four interceptions.

Florida Gators 2017 commits

 

Quarterback Jake Allen (6-2, 195, Fort Lauderdale, FL St. Thomas Aquinas)

Matchup: St. Thomas Aquinas will take on Dillard to start the season on Thursday night.

Yearly Stats: As a sophomore Allen was 63-120 for 751 yards and six touchdowns. Allen also threw five interceptions.

Receiver Daquon Green (6-1, 186, Tampa, FL Tech)

Matchup: Tampa Bay Tech will travel to take on Blake (Tampa) on Friday night.

Andrew always knew he wanted to be involved with sports in some capacity. He began by coaching high school football for six years before deciding to pursue a career in journalism.
