Payton picks up Florida offer

A number of prospects from Jacksonville First Coast visited the Florida campus Saturday for the second junior day of the year, a visit wide receiver Tristan Payton (6-1, 180, Jacksonville, FL First Coast) won’t soon forget.

During the visit to Payton was pulled into head coach Will Muschamp’s office where he received some good news.

“It feels good to get an offer from Florida today,” Payton said. “To come from nothing from Jacksonville and to be here now I have to thank God for that. I went inside the office and coach Muschamp talked to me about my talent and he said he wanted to offer me a scholarship.”

Overall, it was a visit that went very well for Payton.

“It was a very nice visit today,” Payton said. “The coaches here are good coaches. I like Florida a lot. My favorite part was the coaches talking to me and telling me how the campus was and basically everything was good.”

During the face to face time with Muschamp, Payton found out where he fits in Florida’s plans.

“Coach Muschamp wants me at receiver,” Payton said. “He said that he wants me to work hard so that I can come in and play early. He said he wanted me to keep my grades up and focus on things and be ready.”

Payton also had an opportunity to sit down with offensive coordinator Kurt Roper where he got a better understanding about the spread offense the Gators will be employing.

“Coach Roper brought me into his office today and was going over the offense with me,” Payton said. “He was showing me the personnel groupings and we were going over releases from the receiver position and stuff.”

Although he now has a Florida offer, Payton says he’s unsure on when he will make a college decision.

“I don’t know about when I will make a decision right now,” Payton said. “I’m just waiting right now.”
