Owens wants to visit Florida

The Gators have been all over the country the past week and a half. Last week, the coaching staff was in New Jersey.

While in New Jersey, the Gators stopped by to see Westville (N.J.) West Deptford fullback Gerald Owens.

“Coach (Brian) White visited me last week at my school,” Owens said. “He told my coach that he liked my tape a lot and that I had great potential on the field in college and possibly in the league. He said that I had good manners and a good head on my shoulders.”

The 6-foot-2, 248-pound Owens has yet to receive an offer from Florida but one could be on the way soon.

“Coach White told me that he will be back up this spring to watch me workout,” Owens said. “He said that after he watches me and evaluates me, that he will go back to coach (Will) Muschamp and they would talk about a potential offer for me from Florida.”

Since Owens has yet to receive an offer from Florida, he has yet to start researching them but he does know a few things about them already.

“I’ve watched them on TV a lot growing up,” Owens said. “I liked Tim Tebow and followed him when he was there. I know they run a pro-style offense and that’s what I think is best suited for me as a player. I still have a lot of questions to ask the coaches to help me learn more about the program.”

Owens said a visit to Florida this summer is possible as he and his parents have been discussing the idea of it.
