McRae living out his dream: Florida Gators recruiting

A quick look at the Florida Gators recruiting board for 2019 might shock a lot of fans, but the coaching staff has already reeled in two big prospects for that recruiting class.

Both commits where in town for Friday Night Lights and defensive back commit Jaleel McRae (6-0, 185, New Smyrna Beach, FL High) enjoyed his time in town.

“Every time I come up here it’s great,” McRae said. “I love the coaching staff, I just love the feeling of being in the Swamp.”

McRae committed to the Gators back in February and he says he was an easy decision once head coach Jim McElwain offered him.

“When I was young, I grew up in a Florida household so it has been my dream forever,” he said on why the Gators. “When Coach Mac gave me the offer, I couldn’t turn it down. I told him that I want to commit.”

The 2019 prospect still has a long time to go before he enrolls in college but McRae says the coaching staff likes his game a lot.

“They liked how I play to the ball and how physical I am to the ball,” McRae said on what Florida likes about him. “They liked my vision and how I use my eyes on the field. They liked the way I used my hips in coverage.”

Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray is doing a good job of developing that relationship early on and it’s one McRae likes.

“I love him, I love Coach Gray,” McRae said on what he likes about Gray. “He’s a father figure to me the past few months. He’s a good man and I watched him coaching the players this spring and he’s a good coach. He likes his players to play with Swag.”

The Gators will still have to battle a lot of teams for McRae’s signature but Florida has the family on its side.

“When I came up here for junior day, it felt like a brother hood up here,” he said on what he likes about Florida. “My family felt the same way and they’re very proud of me and we have a dream.”
