Lucas high on UF after his visit: Florida Gators recruiting

Saturday night wasn’t a large Florida Gators recruiting visitors list but it feature several highly rated 2019 prospects that are interested in the Gators.

One of those guys was 2019 offensive lineman Dontae Lucas (6-3, 323, Miami, FL. Senior) who didn’t like the outcome on Saturday night but he likes the fight he witnessed from Florida.

“The team was supposed to get the win but sometimes it doesn’t happen like that,” Lucas said on Saturday night’s visit to Florida. “I saw a good team, good coaches and a great coaching staff.”

Lucas admits that the Florida visit was a good one and he says the feel he gets from the Gators is what he notices the most.

“Well, what a stood out was basically I feel like I’m at home,” he said on what stood out to personally. “Everything is good.”

Most of the Florida coaches spoke to Lucas on Saturday including offensive line coach Brad Davis who the offensive lineman has a good relationship with.

“Great coach, he treats me like I’m basically one of his people,” Lucas said on his relationship with Brad Davis. “He keep it real, he will tell you what you can do here from the start. Basically I have to work to get the spot.”

Lucas paid close attention to the Gators offensive line on Saturday and he liked what he saw from Florida’s group.

“They’re a good offensive line,” he said on the Gators offensive line. “They’re aggressive, Martez [Ivey] had a couple of good pancakes. They’re a real aggressive offensive linemen. I think me as a person would bring more to the offensive line.”

Florida has been one of the frequent places that Lucas has visited so far in his recruitment and he admits that the Gators are a team high in his regards.

“They’re one of my tops,” Lucas said on where Florida stands with him. “Florida is one of my tops. I mean we will know after the season where I’m committed to. It’s either Miami, Bama, Florida or wherever. I’ll drop my top ten then we will know.”

The Gators aren’t alone in recruiting the big offensive lineman as several other big name schools are after him.

“Florida, the U, Bama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oregon, it’s a lot,” he said on who’s recruiting him hard right now.

INSIDERS TAKE: Lucas likes Florida, Miami and Alabama a lot and he’s planning to visit Bama next Saturday for the Tennessee game. The Gators will continue to try and get him back on campus as Florida is definitely in the mix for his commitment.
