LB Williams lists Gators in top 5

Will Muschamp likes physical linebackers on his defense, and he is dipping into the state of Alabama trying to recruit one of the top players at the position.

Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul’s linebacker Tre Williams has been a high priority for the Gators for more than a year now, and they will finally get a chance to impress him on campus.

“I talked to coach (Will) Muschamp a few days ago,” Williams said. “He was telling me he was excited for me to visit and see the campus at Florida. I told him that me, my teammates (Josh Casher) and my head coach will be visiting Florida soon for a spring practice.”

Before the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Williams ever sets foot on campus, he has a top 5 that includes the Gators.

“My top 5 in no order is Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama and USC,” Williams said. “I know everyone says I’ll stay in state, but that’s not true. I’m open to going out of state or wherever is the best place for me.”

The Under Armour All-American has a couple of things he wants to see and do when he visits Florida in a few weeks.

“I want to see the campus and the facilities at Florida,” Williams said. “I also what to sit down and talk with coach Muschamp and coach (D.J.) Durkin to see where I would fit in the defense there. I know they want me at linebacker, and I’m thinking they want me inside but I’m not sure.”

Though Williams never visiting Florida before, he said having the Gators in his top 5 is due to seeing them on TV.

“I watch Florida a lot,” Williams said. “Since I was a little kid, I have always watched them play. They play with a lot of intensity and coach Muschamp is a good coach, and I have seen what he has done with some of his players. I could really see myself playing there.”

Williams plans to make his decision at the Under Armour All-American Game next January.
