Jefferson wins FHSAA 3A title

ORLANDO — Jefferson HS senior linebacker Ramik Wilson (6-3/218) has more than 15 scholarship offers including Georgia, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Rutgers, USF and Illinois.

In-state schools UF, Miami, and FSU have not offered Wilson, but his impressive performance in Jefferson’s (Tampa) 44-34 victory over Norland HS (Miami) in the FHSAA 3A championship game should result in several more offers.

Wilson racked up six tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and even added three catches for 34 yards on offense at the Florida Citrus Bowl in his final high school game.

Wilson was seemingly all over the field. Opposing players attempting block or cover the athletic player tore his jersey the shreds. Large patches of paint were chipped away from his helmet; an obvious indicator of the athleticism and aggressiveness Wilson has shown during the Dragons’ 15-0 season.

After Jefferson’s state championship run, Wilson said that he has not thought much about recruiting. He will start thinking about his recruiting options on Monday after everything settles down.

Wilson’s junior teammate Tyriq McCord (6-3/225) was also impressive in the win. McCord totaled 1.5 sacks and another 1.5 tackles-for-loss. McCord added a catch for 13 yards on the offensive side of the ball.

McCord picked up a Florida offer a few weeks ago, but has not narrowed down his list of schools yet. Like Wilson, McCord said he has been concentrating on his season, and will start to think about recruiting once everything settles down.

With linebacker Ryan Shazier de-committing from Florida earlier on Friday, Wilson would be a viable candidate to replace Shazier. Wilson is an ESPNU four-star prospect and the No. 10-rated inside linebacker in the country.
