The Florida Gators had several of its 2016 commits on campus on Saturday night including center commit Brett Heggie (6-4, 290, Mount Dora, FL High), who enjoyed his first trip to Gainesville since he was nine years old.
“It went good, I saw a couple of things that I haven’t seen before,” Heggie said of his Florida visit. “It was my first game since 2008, so it was good to see a game. I saw the Gator walk, saw the indoor and that was extremely nice. I got a chance to talk to Coach [Jim] McElwain and Coach [Mike] Summers after the game and I think I’m going to end up being back up next weekend for the game too.”
Heggie didn’t know what to expect when it came to the Florida Gators atmosphere but the crowd in the Swamp impressed him.
“The atmosphere was crazy, the first game against New Mexico State I wasn’t really expecting that many people there,” he said of the atmosphere. “There was 90,000 people there and they were crazy and the players played well in front of them.”
Like most offensive prospects Heggie wanted to see what the offense was going to look like it and he was impressed by what McElwain showed off on Saturday.
“The offense got rolling fast and I’m excited to see what happens when the SEC teams start rolling in,” Heggie said. “It was the offense that I expected to see and it’s going to be tough to choose between the two quarterbacks because they both played well. I thought they did good and I know they had some young guys in there.”
After watching the game on Saturday and experiencing the Swamp, Heggie is sold on his decision to join the Florida Gators and he believes in the fans and coaches at Florida.
“I think they are going to have a good season,” he said. “The Swamp just separates itself from everyone because it’s just a different feeling. I mean Gator Nation is the best and I think the Florida fans are the best fans in the world.”
