Hawkins committed, but making visits

The Florida football team has three receivers verbally committed for the Class of 2013, but one of those is still taking visits.

Columbus (Ga.) Carver receiver Marqui Hawkins has taking a few visits this summer. He said he remains solid to Florida despite an upcoming visit to one of the Gators’ rivals.

“I’m 100 percent committed to Florida,” Hawkins said. “I’m visiting Tennessee next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, though.”

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Hawkins has been committed to the Gators since early May. He still hasn’t visited the Gainesville campus, but said that will change soon.

“I’m going to visit Florida for Friday Night Lights in July,” Hawkins said. “I was supposed to visit a few times this spring and summer, but I haven’t had transportation down there.”

Hawkins admits that since he has committed several coaches are still calling him trying to flip him to their school.

The Carver prospect said that every school that has offered him a scholarship has at least made contact with him since he committed. Mississippi State is the one school recruiting him the hardest besides Florida.

With other schools calling, Hawkins makes sure he speaks regularly to Florida.

“I talk to coach (Will) Muschamp every week,” Hawkins said. “He just tells me how excited he is for me to visit Florida and how he is glad that I’m a Gator and stuff.”

Hawkins said that he speaks regularly to Florida’s two other receiver commitments.

“I talk to Ahmad (Fulwood) and Rodney (Adams) a lot,” Hawkins said. “We are just trying to build a relationship and stuff.”

Hawkins is planning to early enroll at Florida in January.
