Gideon Ajagbe commits to Gators

Gideon Ajagbe has always been a dreamer of big dreams, but perhaps the biggest dream of his young life came true Tuesday when when he committed to play football for the Florida Gators.

“I spent a lot of time thinking about it and Florida is the best place for me,” Ajagbe (6-2, 205, Miami, FL Ransom Everglades) said. “I love the Florida Gators and I’m a huge fan so this is really a dream come true for me.”

Ajagbe had decided he was going to commit to Florida a little while ago, but was waiting for his test scores before he told the Gator coaches. When his qualifying test score came in Tuesday he immediately picked up the phone and called Coach Urban Meyer.

“I told Coach Meyer that I was committing to Florida and he told me he was very happy,” Ajagbe said. “We didn’t get to talk that much because he had to go to practice, but I could tell that he was happy.”

Even though Ajagbe is committed to Florida, he still plans on taking visits. This is something that he has discussed with Coach Meyer.

“I told him that I want to take all my visits, but that in the end I’ll likely still be a Gator,” Ajagbe said. “I don’t think Coach Meyer will be too happy about that, but I hope he respects my wishes.”

Among the schools that Ajagbe plans on visiting are UNC, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Duke and Ohio State. However, as Ajagbe said it would take something drastic to change his mind.

“I don’t know what it would take, but it’ll be hard to get me to change my mind,” he said. “It could happen, but I really doubt it.”

Ajagbe plays numerous positions for Ransom Everglades but he is being recruited by Florida as a linebacker.

“I’ll play wherever the coaches want me to play,” he said. “It doesn’t matter to me as long as I am helping the team win.”

One thing that scares off some recruits about the Gators is their loaded depth chart. However, Ajagbe isn’t one of those recruits and he welcomes the chance to compete.

“I know that no matter where I go I will have to compete for playing time,” he said. “So, I realized that if that’s the case I’d rather go to my dream school and compete there, then do it at some other school.”

After what happened with several recruits in the 2010 class there is certainly a cause for concern that Ajagbe is planning on taking visits. With that being said, he is a kid who is a life long Gators fan and has had Florida on top of his list since day one. Unless something drastic happens, Ajagbe should wind up signing a Florida letter of intent.
