Fulton enjoys a great atmosphere in the Swamp

“DBU”, as the Florida Gators are called, is looking to add several defensive backs in the class of 2016 as they expect to lose Vernon Hargreaves III this year.

Last Saturday, cornerback Kristian Fulton (6-0, 175, Metairie, LA, Rummel) visited Gainesville to see the Florida Gators’ rivalry game.

“It was great, it was a great experience,” Fulton said. “That was one of the best rivalries in the country with two top teams in the country going at it. I think it’s going to be like that for the next few years.”

Fulton has attended several games at LSU over the last few years believes that the Swamp had an equally great atmosphere on Saturday night.

“That was one of the top atmosphere’s I have ever been around, that was crazy,” he said. “I have been to Tiger Stadium a lot and that atmosphere on Saturday was up there.”

The Louisiana defensive back visited Florida this summer while Jim McElwain was at SEC Media Days, so Saturday was the first chance for Fulton to meet McElwain in person and the visit went well.

“It was my first time meeting Coach Mac on Saturday,” Fulton said. “He just wanted to let me know what the plan was and that he wanted his players around the best facilities. He said that he wants his players to be comfortable in the places they have to be around. He said they’re rebuilding the locker room and Coach Mac just said that they’re going to make things the best.”

McElwain is loved by all of his players and Fulton found out why that is on Saturday when he met McElwain.

“Coach Mac is a real cool and laid back coach,” he said. “He wants his players to be chill around him. Coach Mac is just like a chill coach.”

Fulton also met with Florida Gators defensive coordinator Geoff Collins and cornerbacks coach Kirk Callahan while in town and they laid out a clear message for Fulton.

“Coach Collins and Coach Callahan both just let me know that I have chance to come in and play early at Florida,” he said. “They’re losing a lot of people in the secondary, so this coming year I can fit in basically anywhere on the defense. They see me playing both inside and outside at corner.”

This year’s Florida Gators defense has been great but Fulton sees a few things that are different from the previous years.

“I think this year’s defense is playing with a lot more energy,” Fulton said. “They’re playing more for each other and more as a team. I really like that money down thing they have there.”

Fulton will play for a state championship this weekend and says that after the game he will start to focus on his official visits.

“I’m going to take an official to Florida in January,” Fulton said. “I’m going to go to Texas before Christmas and then I’m going to take an official to LSU. I plan to use all five of them and then I’ll make a decision.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Fulton says his decision will come out of the teams that he takes official visits too. When all is said and done I think Fulton goes to either Florida or LSU, but the official visits could change that.
