It wouldn’t be a normal day if the Florida Gators did offer an offensive lineman while out on the road.
Good news for Florida is on Wednesday offensive line coach Mike Summers offered California offensive line commit Nick Buchanan (6-4, 285, Dunwoody, GA High) a scholarship while visiting his school.
“Coach Summers came by my school on Wednesday and it went pretty good with him,” Buchanan said. “He was telling me that I have an offer from Florida and he wants me to come to Florida and play for him. He said that if I choose Florida I’ll be around some great people and he will be able to teach me some things.”
The message from Summers has been simple when he’s offering linemen and that is the Gators need bodies in Gainesville to play the position and guess what, that’s exactly what he told Buchanan on Wednesday.
“He said that they only have seven guys on scholarship and that they are looking for some guys to come and make an impact immediately,” Buchanan said. “He was telling me that he wants to try me outside at tackle and see how I handle myself in space but if that doesn’t work out he can slide me inside.”
Buchanan has seen his offer list explode over the last few weeks and that had made his schedule become unclear.
“I might take a visit to Florida but I haven’t decided yet,” Buchanan said. “A lot of schools have come into the picture as of late and I just need to take a step back and look at everything. I do know that I’m taking a visit to Georgia this weekend and after that I’ll decide on my next visit.”
With next weekend’s visit unclear Buchanan said that three teams are in the race to get his last official visit, while he remains solid to Cal.
“Penn State, South Carolina and Florida have all offered me recently so they are in the running to get a visit the last weekend,” Buchanan said. “I’m solid to Cal but those three schools and Georgia are still in the mix.”
INSIDERS TAKE: I think this is going to be a tough one to land for Florida especially since he’s visiting Georgia this weekend. Florida will send multiple coaches to visit him next week and try to land an official visit so it will be something to watch next week.
