Florida leads for McDowell

Saturday was the first day of the Will Muschamp football camp and prospects came from all over the country to participate.

One prospect in attendance was Covington (La.) High defensive tackle Garrald McDowell who enjoyed his trip.

“I got to Florida on Friday night and stayed at the hotel right here on campus,” McDowell said. “Florida is a nice place and I learned a lot of stuff from the Florida coaches, especially the defensive line coach Brad Lawing. The coaches said they were impressed by me and they told me to just finish through and keep working hard.  It was good overall and my best visit by far.”

The 6-foot-2, 253-pound McDowell left Gainesville with a clear cut leader and also a timeline of when he may decide.

“Florida is my leader,” McDowell said. “I’ve been a Florida fan for a while now and I remember watching Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin play for Florida and now they are all in the NFL. I plan to go visit Alabama next week and after that it will come down to those two schools and I will most likely make my decision sometimes this month or early next month.”

For McDowell, he has a few other schools that he is still interested in but he also knows what he is looking for to make his decision.

“I’m also interested in Arkansas, Ole Miss and Oklahoma,” McDowell said. “The depth chart is a key for me. The coaching staff is another factor for me and how they will work with me once I get on campus there. But the biggest factor for me is the depth chart and how quick I can get on the field.”
