Florida Gators recruiting notebook for April 27th

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts have yielded a lot of buzz tis week, as the coaching staff is pushing through the Sunshine state looking for the next Gators football player.

While some of the players that are receiving visits already have offers from the Gators, a lot of the guys are still being evaluated and are waiting on offers from Florida.

That was the case on Monday when the Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins were in the central part of the state checking on two defensive linemen.

One of those defensive linemen was defensive end DeMarco Artis (6-3, 218, Sanford, FL Seminole), who had Rumph at his practice on Monday afternoon.

“It went great, Coach Collins just came by the school,” Artis said. “He watched me in practice go through drills and stuff like that. It was nice to see him.”

After practice was over Collins and Artis spoke over the phone about when a potential offer could come from the Gators.

“He has been telling me that the whole staff really likes me a lot,” he said. “He said that they will supposedly offer me pretty soon. Right now they’re just trying to figure out where to play me at.”

While Collins was visiting with Artis, Rumph was visiting 2018 defensive end Dennis Briggs (6-3, 238, Kissimmee, FL Gateway), who picked up first SEC offer from Mississippi State, but is still waiting on his Florida offer.
“It went good, it was good to see them by the school,” Briggs said. “He couldn’t talk to me but he just wanted me to see him there and he wanted to see me in person for himself.”

An offer wasn’t something that came up when Briggs spoke to the Gators later that night, but a visit this summer and more communication is something that the defensive end expects to happen.

“In the past I have been talking to Florida a lot but it slowed down some,” he said. “They told me that they wanted me to start contacting them more and I most definitely plan on visiting them this summer.”

While the coaching visits are going on and creating buzz, safety Daniel Wright (6-1, 175, Fort Lauderdale, FL Cardinal Gibbons) announced that the Gators made his top group of school.

Wright announced his top 11 schools that consisted of Florida, Florida State, Miami, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, USC, Clemson, Maryland, Auburn and Notre Dame.

Florida State has been considered the top school for Wright early but the safety says he plans to visit the Gators this summer.
