Florida Gators make a big impression on Davis

The Florida Gators hosted several prospects that were committed elsewhere this weekend on official visits.

One of those prospects was Oregon State defensive end Keivonnis Davis (6-4, 225, Miami, FL Central) who had a good visit including getting the chance to hang out with some of his good friends.

“It went good, real good,” Davis said. “I just got a chance to meet the people on campus. I got to catch up with some of the players from the Miami area that I knew and find out what they think about the transition from one coaching staff to this one. My host was Daniel McMillan but I hung out with Quincy [Wilson], Treon [Harris] and J.C. [Jackson] a lot too.”

A lot of prospects have been talking about head coach Jim McElwain’s personality and Davis got the same positive impression from his meeting with McElwain on Sunday.

“Coach McElwain is bad, I’m talking about all weekend he was just full of excitement,” Davis said. “He just kept telling me that he needs me to come up to Florida and play for him. He said that he wants me to play the BUCK position like Dante Fowler played.”

Davis likes McElwain a lot but he’s become very close with defensive line coach Terrell Williams the last few weeks and Williams is someone that Davis trust a lot.

“Coach Williams is just excited that I came up to visit and that he might get to coach me,” Davis said. “He told me that he wants to coach me and help me grow into a man. He said that he wants to help me get to the next level. With his history and the guys he’s coached I’m definitely interested in that. He has coached a lot of my role models.”

Despite a great visit this weekend Davis says he will make a final decision this coming week on where he will attend school at.

“I’m still committed to Oregon State,” Davis said. “I’m going to be making my final decision on where I’m going to be going on Wednesday on signing day. I’ll be deciding between Florida and Oregon State. It will probably be in the morning time.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Davis really likes defensive line coach Terrell Williams a lot and I think that will be the deciding factor that makes Davis want to play at Florida. Davis is a guy that I think can contribute as a freshman in the SEC.
